Programme Overview

The ODL B.Sc. programme in e-Agricultural Extension and Community Engineering is a groundbreaking initiative by Obafemi Awolowo University’s Faculty of Agriculture and Centre for Distance Learning. Collaborating with the NIPPON Foundation, the programme aims to:

Target Candidates

This programme is specially designed for:

  • Mid-career extension workers.
  • Graduates with NCE, ND/HND/Bachelor’s degree in science fields from recognised institutions.
  • Individuals looking to become extension and community engineering scientists.

Course Duration and Admission Requirements

Prospective students fall into three categories, each with specific duration and requirements:

1. Science-based ND and NCE Holders

  • Without Agricultural Background: 4 years.
  • With Agricultural Background: 3 years.
  • Requirements:
    • Minimum of 2 years post qualification (ND/NCE) experience in agriculture-related work.
    • Recommended and sponsored by the employer or a post-secondary education teacher if self-employed.
    • ND/NCE in agriculture or related field.
    • At least credit passes in 5 relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent.

2. Science-based HND Holders

  • Without Agricultural Background: 4 years.
  • With Agricultural Background: 3 years.
  • Requirements:
    • Minimum of 2 years post qualification (HND) experience in agriculture-related work.
    • Recommended and sponsored by the employer or a post-secondary education teacher if self-employed.
    • HND in agriculture or related field.
    • At least credit passes in 5 relevant subjects in one or two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent.

3. Transfer Students from Science-based First-degree Programmes

  • Duration: 4 years.
  • Requirements:
    • At least credit passes in 5 relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination or its equivalent.
    • Minimum of 1.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
